First Pressing
This is an original first pressing (EPIC 10051), one of the earliest editions of this recording. First pressings are the most collectible versions, manufactured from the original master and pressed on heavier vinyl stock.
About This Record
This is the first Indian pressing of Thriller, and it carries the printing error that marks the earliest run. The back cover credit reads only 'Produced by Quincy Jones for Qwest' and omits the 'Co-Produced by Michael Jackson' line that corrected sleeves carry. Once the credit was fixed the error disappeared, so a misprint sleeve can only have come from the first batch.
The disc confirms it. The runout is stamped EPIC 10051 A, the Indian catalogue number, alongside AL 38112, the master number behind the original American release. This copy was cut in India from Epic's own US metalwork rather than from a later local remaster, which puts it a generation closer to the source than the reissues that followed.
Thriller is the best selling album ever made and later pressings are easy to find. Original 1983 Indian copies with the misprint sleeve are not. Collector databases currently list several hundred people looking for this pressing against a small fraction of that number who own one, with only a handful offered for sale anywhere in the world.
